Our brethren are near  Our Prior, His. Excl.  Macarie cav. Hedeşiu, Gr. Cr. OBSS, in these sad moments, when his mother, Mme. Valeria Hedeşiu (1919-2013), after receiving the Holy Sacraments and being reconciled with Our Creator and Saviour, passed into Eternity on December 12, 2013. May Our Lord give her His pardon and the eternal rest!

Jesus Christus regnare volumus! (II)

The OBSS Romanian Priory, as a traditional institute, concerning the „abdication” of His H. Pope Benedict XVI,  has this statement to be done:

1) There are several signs, well published and spread among the press, about plots and blackmailing the Pope. Some Italian newspapers like Il Fatto Quotidiano (Febr. 10, 2012!), La Repubblica (Febr. 21, 2013), the Panorama Weekly (Febr. 21-27, 2013) are mentioning the Castrillon Hoyos Report, or the Herranz/Tomko/Di Giorgio Files, indicating serious pressure and plots against the Holy Father.

2) Even according to the new CIC 1983 (can. 187-189,  esp. 332, par. 2), a renunciation must be freely done, without any coercion. There are reasonable doubts that this really happened with His Holiness the Pope Benedict.

3) Even under duress and coercion Pope Benedict would have had to resist and to stay on that Cross, which Our Lord Jesus Christ gave Him, being accepted previously. With this step He, the Pope,  introduced  a suspicion about the  legitimacy of  His follower, and this until Pope Benedict lives.   More, a catastrophic example was given as a precedence, for all those who are confusing the Papal figure and the Papal ministry with a managerial one or with a political one.

Therefore Our Priory is considering the „abdication” of Pope Benedict XVI null and void.

But for all the  errors and sins against the Holy Trinity and the Church, may the Almighty God have mercy upon the soul of Pope Benedict XVI!

A Remembrance of H.Exc. Msgr. Elias Zoghby, Once Archbishop of Baalbeck (1912-2008)

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , , , on Ianuarie 20, 2013 by remusmirceabirtz

On January 16 2008 H.Exc. Msgr. Elias Zoghby was giving his soul to our Lord. He was one of the most ardent fighters of restoring the communion between the Orthodox and the Catholic Church. His 1995 double communion Manifesto was creating amazement and several discussions.

Elias Zoghby

The Greek Catholic Melkite Synod adopted it, together with the Orthodox Synod of the Antiochene Patriarchate. As our readers know, in our Priory are accepted only Orthodox and Catholics, therefore Msgr. Zoghby’s position can be an answer for our spiritual decisions. Modern ecumenism seems to go nowhere. And what was astonishing, Vatican II, instead of phocusing on reestablishing unity between Catholics and Orthodox, was proclaiming a general relativistic ecumenism; worse was done by the so called spirit of the Council. More, during the H. Mass „reform”, only Protestant ministers were invited; no Oriental Catholic experts, no Orthodox ones. The Offertory prayers, clef de voute of the Liturgy, were cut off. However, all the Eastern rites (Catholic/”Uniate” or Orthodox/”Non Uniate”) have the Offertory well developed. This creates the strong feeling that something spurious was planned, which the faithful Catholics always agree.

The same can be said about cannon law. A concrete example is given by the confusion between the Pontifical /Papal prerogatives and those of the Patriarchs. The Pope of Rome is the Patriarch of the Occident, too. Therefore, H.H. Pope Benedict XVI renouncing to this title, accomplished  a big error. The title Patriarch of the Occident was not only the heritage of His predecessors, but also the heritage of the Catholic Church, and of the Orthodox ones! This title is a patrimony recognized by all the Ecumenical Councils, so is not even belonging to the Church of Rome.

Sadly enough, on both sides (Catholic or Orthodox) ignorance on the other’s traditions is huge. Msgr. Zoghby was one of the few who knew deeply the common Orthodox / Greek-Catholic  traditions from Near East. Therefore his message is always actual. Therefore we are offering to our readers some of the materials concerning His double communion Manifesto, one of our knights having once the privilege of  being honoured with correspondence  from the former Archbishop of Baalbeck.

Before and during Vatican II Council Msgr. Zoghby struggled for the dignity of the Greek-Catholic Bishops ( always regarded as „second hand”bishops). The Roman Curia, instead of  looking for oriental catholic bishops’help, was enough arrogant to disdain them, and therefore, the coup d’Etat of the Modernists was carried out with good succes in Autumn 1963.

Other Data about di Demetrio Family from Triest

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags on Octombrie 11, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

For those who have read our previous post about the Institutions of di Demetrio family and our essay Old Things from the Past…. the connection between di Demetrio family and Triest is not new.

Dimitrij IX Vasilievich di Demetrio  was born in Triest and was active there during the most part of his life. His family, at least in the XIXth century had a strong, influent position there.

Vasilievich means his patronim, his father’s name : Vasilij or Basilio. Di Demetrio is the genitive form of Dimitrij or Demetrios; in Greek the genitive form would be Dimitriou. However, a noble family di Demetrio was well-known in Triest, belonging to the Greek community from that city, and being considered of noble origin.

The Demetrios were rich and benefactors, had some contacts with the Hellenic Resistance against the Ottomans, with Freemasonry , and are mentioned as a distinguished family in the Greek community. Here the article of Mme. Lucia Marcheselli Loukas is giving a short history of the Triestine Greek community, mentioning the  di Demetrios too: (Lucia Marcheselli Loukas I Greci Trieste).

With the noble family of barons Economo (Ekonomou) the di Demetrios were playing an important role in the  Trade and Industry Chamber from Triest, Giovanni Antonio di Demetrio being between 1905-1913 president of that corporation, assisted by Economo. They were trading cereals especially from Romania, Galatz, as records of the Trade Chamber are mentioning. See the work of Tabo, Grazia – Deputazioni di borsa poi Camera di Comercio e d’Industria di Trieste (1755-1921), Trieste, 2000, Archivio dello Stato, available even here: http://www.beniculturali.it/ASTS/Inventari/camcom.pdf, pp.20, 148, 207, 212, 217, 233, 240, 243, 244, 247, 250, 257, 344, 635, 658.  Not only Giovanni Antonio  di Demetrio was playing a role there, but also his brother , Basilio di Demetrio (the grandfather of Dimitrij X Dimitrievich), who, in 1905 was insisting that the Chamber has to acquire the  „Calepino Dictionary„, for seven languages, from the XVIIIth cent. (Tabo, Grazia -op.cit.,p. 244.)

His brother, Giovanni Antonio di Demetrio, in 1895 published something about financial laws : „Per istudio e riferta sul progetto di legge concernente le imposte personali dirette”, Trieste, 1895. About the Ekonomou (Economo) baronial family see Pietro Spirito Gli Economo di Trieste.

Being a wealthy and noble family, di Demetrios were able to finance a large mannoir for them in  1849 (see the cartographical file of Mme. Isabella Collavizza here (   Collavizza Isabella Palazzo di Demetrio Trieste)

Some pictures would be useful here:

This castle is situated on via Cesare Battisti 14, Triest, being now protected by the Superintendence of the historical buildings.   In the half of  the   XIXth c., the sister of Giovanni Antonio and of Basilio di Demetrio, Giuseppina, married with another nobleman of Greek origin: Anastasio Edler von Vardacca (see  Di Demetrio Lucinis Attems).

So di Demetrios were well inserted in the local Triestine establishment.

If Giovanni Antonio di Demetrio was trading with Romania since 1877, his son, Dr. Antonio di Demetrio was much more implicated in Romanian realities. Antonio di Demetrio was honorary Consul of the Romanian Kingdom between the World Wars (Corpo Consolare Trieste)     and after 1945 he had a crucial activity helping the Romanian refugees from the new communist paradise. The Romanians were escaping through Hungary (communist also) or through Yugoslavia ( the Titoist regime was communist too, but ‘unorthodox”) and much less through Bulgaria and Greece.

The Romanian Exile organized the CAROMAN (The Romanian Red Cross from Exile), patronised by H.M. the King, several National Councils from Exile, or former Royal Ministers who were able to escape before 1947 from Romania. The CAROMAN deputy for Triest was Antonio di Demetrio, who, together with his wife, took care personally about the Romanian refugees there.

In fact in  1949 he helped 581 refugees, in 1950: 105, in 1951: 101, in 1952: 234, in 1953: 198, in 1954: 100. He assisted them with money, food, vestments, papers and  documents,, juridical advises, news from and to Romania,  facilitating their emigration to other countries, he had to struggle against several diversions, and even a Romanian school was organized by him in Triest, in 1951!  He did several interventions at the A.M.G. (Allied Military Govt.) of Triest, and wrote a huge correspondence with the Romanian authorities in Exile. He was a true benefactor for those exiled Romanians, unfortunately fallen in oblivion today. And he even spoke Romanian!

Aurel Sergiu Marinescu (1922-2008) , a serious historian of the Romanian Exile, and a former political prisoner too, had warm terms to appreciate the help offered by Dr. Antonio di Demetrio ( Marinescu, Aurel Sergiu – „O contributie la istoria Exilului romanesc„, 10 vol., vol. VII, Bucharest, 2007, ed.Vremea, pp. 300, 386, 400-01, 410-11, 413-18, 422-23, 427-28, 440-448, 451-58, 472-80, 487-88, 491, is offering in the quoted pages a precise , documented, report about the activity of di  Demetrio). Antonio di Demetrio’s cousin, Demetrio IX Vasiljevich di Demetrio, had to do with the refugees in Italy, too.

Therefore, the Romanian Priory considers a duty of honour recording the memory of Dr. Antonio di Demetrio, benefactor of those Romanian who lost their country. And the heraldic allegiance to Habsburg Dynasty proves to be a very natural, normal, „canonical” one, once that the di Demetrios were Triestine, Austro-Hungarian nobles too.

Unfortunately we were not able yet to find other data about  di Demetrios from Triest, or about  the heirs of Antonio di Demetrio.

Sadly, the irregular life of Demetrio IX Vasilievich, and possible some troubles occured after the death of Dr. Antonio di Demetrio or his proximal parents, created deep problems to Dimitrij Maria di Demetrio, alias Dimitrij X Dimitrievich.

Tu es Petrus

Here is the link to a well known Catholic anthem, Tu es Petrus, sung by two interpreters, one being Dr. med. Marcel cav. Cuceu, OBSS, having a Licence in Medicine and a Licence in Theology from the Catholic University of Louvain. He entered in our Priory on 21.VIII.1998, being also a benefactor for us.

Some Data about The Romanian Priory of the OBSS

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags on Octombrie 8, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

For some time the Romanian Priory did not want to make itself publicity, nor to appear in public debates.

Even now, the Priory is keeping and will keep discretion. However, commemorating 90 years from the birth of Demetrio Maria di Demetrio, alias Dimitrij X Dimitrievich di Russia, and observing that those who claim his heritage did nothing to honour  at least his intellectual profile, it was our duty to act. This explains the genesis of this web-page.

The Priory constituted itself  in 1997; previously, HIH Dimitrij created two hereditary Knights (Mr. Mircea Remus Birtz, of Justice in 1993, and Mr. Radu Motoca,  of Magistral Grace, in 1994). Before  receving these titles, one  had to ask the heraldic „ placet” of the local ” Fontes Honorum„: i.e. Otto of Austria-Hungary, and King Michael I of Romania. More, one  had to ask, and received permission to act in Romania, from the same „Fontes Honorum. This is the regular way to proceed. Dimitrij knew and encouraged this; after other candidates were proposed, and placet received , Dimitrij expressed His intention to adopt one of these two knights, this creating disappointment in the postulant’s  family. Because they didn’t had the same citizenship, and the required tax was high, Dimitrij’s intention must be seen as a moral one.

However, even if He gave the permission to act in Romania, H.M. King Michael, when asked to receive the Patronage of Honour of the future Priory, He denied, H.M. being occupied with heavy political problems in those years.

After finishing studies in Rome, and even before, one of the Knights, returning home, was able to organize concretely the Priory.

The first  Prior was Dr. Mircea Remus cav. Birtz, OBSS, between 1997-2000, being after this charge  instituted as Secretary. He promulgated the Rules of the Priory on 15-16.IX.2000.

Mr. Radu cav. Motoca, OBSS is the Chancellor of the Priory.

Mr. Macarie cav. Hedesiu, OBSS, received in the OBSS on 9.VIII. 1998, former Secretary, became Prior on 28.XI.2000.

On 2.IV.2002, after analysing the situation occurred due to the death of HIH Dimitrij X Dimitrievich, two Great Masters were instituted: Florin cav. Mihaescu, OBSS (concerned about the doctrinal  matters  of the Priory) and Arpad Bereczky de Torboszlo (concerned about the heraldic matters). The Priory became independent.

The Prior has all the administrative powers, taking into account the dispositions of the Great Masters. If a place of high position remains vacant, it is not obvious that it will be occupied immediately after. A competent person must be found for this task.

The Priory makes distinction between heraldic and spiritual matters. Heraldic benefits receive all those who join the Priory, or are nominated motu proprio, the postulants being always proposed, never accepted on personal request.

The spiritual quality of a Knight is received after the religious blessing (l’ adoubement), which can be given by all the Knights, duly charged on, who received it previously. Those who received the spiritual blessing have to adopt a very strong traditional attitude. Their number is fixed on 30, not all the places being occupied. The actual members of the Priory don’t pass 35.

The Priory refuses to accept taxes, or to have lucrous activity, but each member has, if desires, to acquire his own insignia. Material contributions are reflected in publishing  personal works connected with the spiritual line of the Priory.

The Romanian Priory of the OBSS  is not selling titles!

Some works were published under the appointment of the Priory:

1. Caietele OBSS I

Please observe the necessary Errata:

-on p. 20 Conciliul Lateran, not Luteran

-on p.23 Principat, not Principal

-on p. 59 Regimul corporatist, not cooperatist, etc.

The text of ” The Old Things from the Past for the Future” was massacred by the publishing house, and we offer here a better version: Old Things from the Past for the Future

See also  Extrase Caiete OBSS 1

2. Caietele OBSS II   and Extrase Caiete OBSS 2

Here again an Errata is to add:

-on p. 21:  Ouverture 1812, not 1821!, etc.

3.  Caietele OBSS III   and Extrase Caietele OBSS III

Sure, an Errata is necessary:

p.11: at the end of the page, to add ” al imperativelor prin H.C.M. sau al sloganelor”

p.85: ” Traian Dorz 1989″, not „1980”

p.109:  ” 20 decembrie 1978″ , not ” 20 martie 1978″, etc.

Other documents of the Romanian priory are given here, some published in „Caietele…”, some not.  Not all the correspondence concerning the Priory is published, only some letters we consider to be suggestive:

Doc P R OBSS 1

Doc P R OBSS 2

Doc P R OBSS 3

Doc P R OBSS 4

The Priory made a public appearance in 2001, when some old churches were in danger to be demolished, for several reasons (ecclesiastic conflicts in Transylvania, or due to modernization). The memory published here (Manifest OBSS 2001) was signed by common citizens.

Again, a fundamental document is Dimitri OBSS 1989,   printed also in  Imperiale Accademia di Mosca Atti e Memorie  n.2, Roma, 1990, p. 42-45.

Our attitude of prudence was necessary.

If our Priory recognizes HIH Massimo Silvestri di Russia as the legal heir of the late HIH Dimitrij X Dimitrievich, due to a legal (i.e. notarised) testament, valid according to the Italian law, both being Italian citizens, the headquarter near HIH Massimo was not prepared to the task received. HIH Massimo proved to be a kind and generous person, but some members of his entourage were categorically not prepared for  their duties

As a consequence,  that headquarter,  the branch leaded by HEmH Alfred Baldacchino,  that of Mr. Calleja, were not able to fight with „princes” like those from „Dobrynia” or from „Alabona-Ostrogojsk” (?!) who claim the same ascendance. And with such „princes”we have nothing to do…

In Memoriam Ştefan Valeriu cav. Stănescu, OBSS, OHSG (1970 – 2003)

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , , , on Octombrie 7, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

Here, Ştefan with H.Exc. Florin cav. Mihăescu, OBSS

Ştefan was born in France, Paris, at 4.VIII.1970, being the oldest son in the family of Mr. Marin Stănesco, diplomat, later Ambassador.

He finished the the studies in Architecture, being fellow of the Architect’s Order from Romania. In 1996 and 1997, viziting Rome, he met Mircea Remus cav. Birtz, OBSS to whom he spoke freely about his quest, his spiritual search, his nonconformism to the „politically correct”way of thinking. A genuine friendship was born, Ştefan being recommanded to Mr. Mihaescu, to enter undo his discipleship. Things were done, Ştefan being a hard reader, studying seriously Guenon, Lovinescu, the controversy between Guenon and Schuon, etc. He also increased his spiritual life, becoming a practicing Orthodox Christian and having also a spiritual director. Under the guidance of Mr. Mihaescu he progressed well in Tradition.

It was very naturally to be proposed for the OBSS, where he was initiated on  13.IX.1999. Later, in 2002, in Spring, he became knight of the  OHSG (the Hungarian Order of St. George, Ordo Hung. Scti. Georgii), making a good impression to Mr. Bereczky.

He was zealous, and his savoir fair was welcomed by every Knight who knew him.

Unfortunately, a danger to which the family was ignorant, was near him. An intestinal polyposis, having hereditary predisposed , was transformed in cancer. He suffered with stoicism, had several  surgical interventions, but in the same time his spiritual life was strong, with the help of the Holy Sacraments. More, he helped in a decisive matter the printing of  some volumes of our review.

He was visited in Bucharest by his  knightly brothers, we all hoped in an improvement, but the sad news arrived on 27.I.2003; Ştefan was called by the Lord. The funeral was held in Bucharest (1.II.2003) and he was burried in the Cemetery of Sinaia. before, he had married religiously Mme. Ioana Botoran. His brother in law, Mr. Lucian Botoran, and Mr. George Postolache,  had a heroical behaviour, Ştefan living with them. They even cooked for him, and when the illness went too far, the nursed him with his wife. This example of true sacrifice was a sufficient proof  to receive from our part, at Ştefan’s coffin, the adoubement both becoming Knights of the OHSG: Mr. Lucian Botoran,OHSG and Mr. George Postolache, OHSG, both ratified later by H.Exc. our Great Prior.  After only 11 month, his father, Mr. Stanescu, passed away due to the same illness!

Here we produce a document (in Romanian), including some ideas expressed on his funeral in the name of our Priory, aletter from his father, the last impressions written by Mme. Ioana , Lucian and George and some photos. Mme. Ioana, Mr. Adrian cav. Barbu, OBSS, Mr. Lucian Botoran,OHSG were near the coffin, Rev. Birtz  placing the sword and the Flag of the Vitez Rend (a sign of respect asked by H.Exc. Arpad Bereczky de Torboszlo, also Great Prior of OHSG): Ştefan cav. Stanescu, OBSS, OHSG Remembrance

A nice poem and a very courteous letter was send by H.I.H. Massimo di Russia, which can be read in the Remembrance.

We have periodically, in a way or another, signs from his part, and his friend and brother Mircea celebrates a St. Liturgy (Holy Mass) for his soul, when it is time. May Our God keep his soul in light and glory!

A Tribute to Our Master, H.Exc. Florin cav. Mihaescu, Gr. Cr. OBSS

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , , on Octombrie 7, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

He was born on 19.II.1923, in an intellectual family, in Tomsani (Valcea county, Romania), became Dipl. Ing. in Chemistry, and followed courses on the Letters & Philosophy Dept. of the University of Bucharest.

In his free time started to translate French authors; a key moment in his life was the encounter in 1958  with N.H. Vasile Lovinescu (1905-1984)

(on photo), an intellectual partner of Rene Guenon , Mircea Eliade, Fritjof Schuon, etc. From that moment,  Florin Mihaescu will be his intellectual disciple, after the death of Lovinescu, being his uncontested spiritual successor.

Having a huge culture, knowing several foreign languages, Florin Mihaescu not only cured the editions of Lovinescu’s works, esp. after 1989, but wrote also a number of very important doctrinal (Traditionalist) books. Here are some of them:

Also he is leading a spiritual circle „Hyperion” and supervizing the  Traditional Revue ” Scrieri si Studii Traditionale”  (the 15th. nr. in 2012).

Among other themes, knowing Maedieval English (reading Shakespeare in original) and using the  traditional hermeneutic keys, he demonstrated  the crypto-Catholicism of Shakespeare, and his profound traditional  views.

About him wrote also Prof. Claudio Mutti (Parma, Italy), a reputed defender of the Tradition, in  „Guenon in Romania” (Bucharest, 2003, Vremea) and also a  Memorial volume was printed, cured by Razesu Virgil and Iacob Dan :” O viata ca o scara: Florin Mihaescu”, Piatra Neamt, 2011, Razesu, where also some documents of the OBSS are published.

H.Exc. Florin cav. Mihaescu is a Practicant Orthodox Christian, having also a spiritual director.

H.M. King Michael I of Romania conceded the placet for Mr. Mihaescu to join the OBSS  on 9.II.1996, and he was received in the OBSS on  15.VIII.1998. On 2.IV.2002 he was nominated Great Master, maintaining the charge of Senechal of our Priory, bein our doctrinal leader. In 2009 he was created Gr. Cr.  of OBSS. Here the Royal placet is published (Placet F. Mihaescu,OBSS)

H. Exc. Count Arpad Bereczky de Torboszlo (1917 -2010)  , Dipl.Ing. in Chemistry, was also officer in the Hungarian Royal Army, after 1945 involved in the Resistance Movement against communism, political prisoner between 1949-1953, and after 1992, until his death, was the leader of the Hungarian Chivalric Orders from Romania.

He also dedicated a lot of his energy, time, money, etc. to investigate the communist crimes from Romania, committed after 1945, through Bereczky Foundation. The results of his findings are published in the book dedicated to him (see up), on pp. 82-177.

He joined the OBSS in 25.X.2000, being created Knight of Justice, and being charched as Ceremony Officer in our Priory. In 2.IV.2002, he, together with H. Exc. Florin cav. Mihaescu, OBSS, were created Great Masters of our Priory, Bereczky answering about heraldic matters, Mihaescu about doctrinal ones. To improve the activity of our Priory, a Pattent Letter from 1.VI.2003 was issued, creating a Hungarian autonomous Branch  Erde’ly Szent Sir Lovagrend, subordinated to our Priory. This Pattent letter was approved by H. Ap., I.& R. Majesty Otto, on  29.III.2004, and then, due to the illness of Count Bereczky, cancelled on 14.IV.2010.  He died on 12.V.2010. A „sanatio in radice” was given for the Hungarian Knights  (some of them are Protestant) we were able to find.

From that date, the Hungarian Knights are full members of our Priory.

He also helped us materially, concretely, working hard to create our insignia.

May God rest his soul in peace and glory!

A recension of the book was given (in Hungarian) by vite’z Rev. Tibor Pa’sztory (v. Rev. Tibor Pasztory Recenzio).

Also a letter from H.I. & R. H. Jozsef Arpad von Austria-Hungary (Habsburg) was given about this book,(H.I. & R. H. Jozsef Arpad Letter)   in His quality of the Supreme Head of the Order of Vitez (Vitez Rend).

The Romanian Priory of the OBSS recognize, recognized, and will recognize only the Vitez Rend (Order of Vitez), lead by H.I. & R. H. Jozsef Arpad and his descendants, as the legitimate Vitez Rend!

Which Road? The Austro-German One, How Otherwise?

The http://www.byzantinische-ritter.de  site belonging to the German Language Priory of the Byzantine Order of the Holy Sepulchre (Order  der Byzantinischer Ritter vom Heiligen Grab) is offering us a nice surprise.

The statements are clear, sober, concise. No phanta-history is given. The aims are clear explained, the allegiance toward the Habsburg Dynasty is also clear stated, a clear religious affiliation is asked. It is, until now, the unique site from the OBSS family which has clear statements concerning Chivalry and its spiritual necessary life. The spiritual training for knighthood (essential. of course) is clearly stated in the German site.

Preparing for the Church Blessing (l’adoubement), the real initiation rite, is also required.

Previous blessings were done with the assistance of  H. Em. Alfons Cardinal Stickler, a good, traditional Cardinal (one of the few, that even before the IndultSummorum Pontificorum” of  Pope Benedict XVI, celebrated the Latin Mass, according to the Old, genuine Catholic, rite (Tridentine).

Here H. Em. Alfons Cardinal Stickler, Msgr. Edmund Dillinger and a Brother Knight in official uniform.

The Prelate of the German Language Priory is Msgr. Edmund Dillinger, with a good pastoral, missionary and cathehetic activities beyond him (Biography Msgr. Edmund Dillinger, OBSS).

Here one can see also a fraternal meeting at the Diplomatic Circle in Vienna (http://www.cercle-diplomatique.com/events/detail/detail/neujahrsempfang-des-ordens-der-byzantinischen-ritter-vom-heiligen-grab/).

More data about the priory can be found here: Document Deutsche OBSS 1  and here  Document Deutsche OBSS 2

This is the way how to  work, how to restore the genuine values of the OBSS, and we can consider the German Language Priory our fraternal one, to which we would be honoured  working together.

Therefore, one of our Knights,  H. Exc. Hofrat Dr. Manfred Kierein, Gr. Cr. OBSS,  from Vienna, one of the few consecrated specialists in the world in reconstructing apostolic successions and bishops consecratory lineages, author of several books about this topic was charged from the part of our Priory, to cooperate and increase, in a way or another, our links with the German Language brothers. The title of Hofrat (Aulic Counselor), formerly offered by the Emperor, was kept under the republican regime, now being offered by the Federal President of Austria to those persons, who, after working in public offices, were accomplishing their duties in an exemplar way.

Actual State of H.I.H. Dimitrij X Dimitrievich Heritage

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , on Octombrie 5, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

We saw from the article about the Institutions of di Demetrio family that at least two heirs  claim the heritage of the late Great Duke, HIH Massimo Silvestri di Russia and H.I.H. Alfred Joseph Baldacchino from Malta. Reestablishing  contacts between HIH Dimitrij and Mr.  Baldacchino was the task which Count Luciano Pellicioni di Poli, a reputed Italian heraldist and columnist tried to accomplish. Count Luciano Pellicioni di Poli, in his famous library, Rome, 1997

Count Pellicioni di Poli, Gr. Cr. OBSS (+ 2004, Rome) had a deep general culture, and despite his mixing in certain moments with bogus chivalric order, published an impressive number of books and articles about heraldry and genealogy. He was Deputy Great Master of St. George from Carinthia K. Order, which he extended well, but having neglected some duties towards the Habsburg dynasty, H.I. & R. Majesty Otto gave a firm statement against him (but in the „50 the relations were very cordial).  Count Pellicioni was a good friend not only of Dimitrij X Dimitrievich, but also of his father, Dimitrij IX Vasilijevich, and also co-operated well with Mr. Baldacchino. Count Pellicioni published a booklet about di Demetrio family (with the same data as Antonio Accogli di Predeslava, Ciro Argondizza, Attilio Valente di Valbruna), wrote very documented works  about the Latin Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, but also an essay abougt the Order of the Holy Sepulchre belonging to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem(Luciano Pellicioni di Poli Il Sovrano Ordine dei Cavalieri del S. Sepolcro, Roma 1968)

Here, however we must observe that during the milet regime of the Ottoman Empire the Greek Patriarchate of Jerusalem was submitted to the Constantinopolitan one, regarded by the Ottomans as the Head of the Rum Mileti (Etnarch of the Greek Orthodox Nation). His defense forces (guards) were assured by the Ottomans, and during religious processions, they were escorted by tchaushes. Titles given by the Greek Patriarchs were those of Arhonda, Great Arhondars, etc., not chivalric ones. Modern chivalric orders were given by the Greek Patriarchates only from XIXcent., when even the Ottoman Empire adopted the Reforms, and Orders modelled after the Western type (like Medjidie Order, etc). So this is a clear Western influence on the Greek Orthodox Orders from the Ottoman Empire. It is also relevant that with the reform of the Greek Order of the Holy Sepulchre, in 1966 was charged Mario Ugolini, a Roman-Catholic Italian. Now the insignia of the Order is quite different that those described by Count Pellicioni..

Massimo di Russia was proclaimed as official heir of HIH Dimitrij X Dimitrievich in public, due to a legal (under the Italian law, both being Italian citizens) testament in  his favour . The public statement can be read here:  The Obituary of Dimitrij X Dimitrievich

The Testament of HIH Dimitrij is given here: Dimitrij Testamento vs.  Massimo Silvestri

Fortunately, he, till now, has a discrete, common sensed, presence in public, rare press articles mentioning his activities. (Press about Massimo di Russia),    being interested in heraldry, pilgrimages, helping Down Syndrome children.

Mr. Baldacchino extended well his branch of OBSS, having good diplomatic contacts, but himself was not protected from dissidents. Count Alessandro Calleja, former High Official of Baldacchino, contested his pretensions, stating for the nullity of the Adoptive Act  received from HIH Dimitrij by his former superior (Mr. Baldacchino), and started to govern his own branch of OBSS. He published an interesting study about chivalric legal recognitions and  about his vision about the history of the OBSS (Count Alessandro Calleja about OBSS).

Both Calleja and Baldacchino being Maltese citizens, their cause arrived in the Court, a sentence being given in favour of Baldacchino Branch (Baldacchino vs. Calleja).

Really it is sad to read such matters between persons who would have to act in a superior, aristocratic way. Both Mr. Baldacchino, Mr. Calleja could work together, and why not, to co-operate with Massimo Silvestri. Each of them has necessary qualities to bring benefits for the Order, and together would have been able to do much more good as until now. But selling titles is not compatible with Knighthood, which pretends  Faith in Christ, Patience, Sacrifice, and interior life. Instead to increase culture and studies about heraldry, Byzantine genuine heritage, and why not?, the Russian culture,  sterile polemics are spreading generous efforts to nowhere.

„When two are quarrelling, thirds are winning” says an old proverb. In the U.S.A. another group of the OBSS was found (from Calleja’s  branch, together with his approval) leaded by Msgr. Haralambos Bouchlos, acting, among others, as Metropolitan of an Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Exile. His consecration’s validity must be verified, but, as his own official site presents, he lives with his own wife, being a married Metropolitan. For those who don’t know, in Byzantine Churches, candidates for Bishops could be celibatarian priests, widow priests, monks, and, if married priests, their election was confirmed (and later consecration administrated only when the wife of the elect one, accepted to retire herself in a monastery, as a nun, in a diocese far away of the ex-husband’s one. This is not the case of MMe. Lois…(Investiture lead page )

Benefits to Knighthood      are, according to us, self-explanatory.

A new  pretender made his entrance on the scene, Don Antonio Tiberio di Dobrynia Augusto, Giulio, Angelo, Flavio, Comneno, Dukas, Laskaris, Paleologo, d’Aragona, Rjurikevich (!) Dimitrievich (!) di Russia, Prince of Dobrynia (Mon Dieu, c’est deja trop..) pretending himself as legitimate heir of the poor Dimitrij X Dimitrievich. No documents for his claim are given.  Some historical, uncritical data, were borrowed from other leaflets or texts about OBSS.   Qous Deus perdere vult, prius dementit.

We must observe than when you are speaking about Habsburgs, Hohenzollerns, Romanovs, Bourbons, it’s enough to mention their family names, and everybody understands what is about.

And to all the gentlemen who dream illustrious ascendance, Dimitrievich ( like Ivanovich, Vasiljevich, Alexejevich) are patronims, indicating the father’s name of that person, and not family names!! The Rjuriks never had a family name! When claiming illustrious ancestry, a bit of general culture would be really necessary.

Which would be the solution? How otherwise, the German one. But we will mention it in another post.

As soon as Mr. Baldacchino, Mr. Calleja or his group are reuniting themselves, and are starting a good , fraternal work with Mr. Silvestri, things would be much more better for the new OBSS.

About the Institutions of di Demetrio Family

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , , , on Octombrie 4, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

W e would again invite the reader to look on the essay written by Mircea Remus cav.Birtz.OBSS, Old Things from the Past for the Future, even if the story finishes there in 1995.

Here are some portraits, from that time, of Dimitrij Vth (Lje Dimitrij I) and his wife, Marina Mniszek:

Some sources of that study are offered here:

1.Peter Truhart, Regents of Nations,   Munich, 1986, Saur Vlg, about Dimitrij VI Dimitrievich

2.OBSS 1669 1788    about the Berat Nishan of the Sultan Mohamed the IVth and Ercole (Hercules) III rd Duke of Modena. Several studies about OBSS and di Demetrio family were mentioning the Ïradeh of the Sultan, which is an anachronism. Iradeh decrees were issued only in the Enlightenment period of the Turkish/Ottoman Empire, starting with the XIX cent.!

3.Vittorio Spreti „Comneno”    a fragment from the article of Vittorio Spreti, written in 1944, about Comnene Dynasty, mentioning the Beys of Enos/Enez

4.Benvenuto Emilio Riurik 1951   a booklet issued in 1951, trying to decipher the history of di Demetrio family. the copy we used was provided with the autograph of Dr. Demetrio Maria di Demetrio Morosini, alias Dimitrij IX Vasiljevich of Russia. However, genealogies traced  to Octavianus Augustus and Prus are legendary. In best sense, they can be interpreted in a symbolic way.

5.Dimitrij IX Vasiljevich in Bari    a small booklet which presents the text of a conference hold by the late Duke  Dimitrij Vasiljevich, who was also a physician and lawyer, about the refugees medical care in Bari. The father of Dimitrij X Dimitrievich was also involved in keeping the City of Triest as Italian. After 1945, Istria, Pola, the Italian Dalmatia were occupied by Yugoslav forces, and, like Fiume, Triest could be lost. The Peace Conferrence from 1947 stated that Triest must be a free city, ist backround belonging to Yugoslavia. In 1955-1956 the Italian rights were however fully recognised upon Trieste/Triest, and this due to Italian patriots. Dimitrie IX Vasilievici (Dr. Demetrio di Demetrio) in Triest    clicking here two historical articles where he is expressly mentioned can be read. Dimitrij IX Vasiljevich was a true Italian patriot. His wife, Pia Pronio (+1989) published a literary book too, three sketches in naturalistic style : Pia Pronio Nel Turbine 1928

6.Demetrio IX Vasilijevich 1954   presents some pages from „L ‘Annuario degli Insigniti Cavallereschi„, from 1954, cured by the Society of the Italian Knights, under the protection of H.M. King Umberto IInd.

7.Antonio Accogli di Predeslava La casa Granducale di Mosca

Attilio Valente di Valbruna La Casa di Mosca 1955 , p. 32-38

(please rotate them when using Adobe PDF Reader). Here the booklet of Antonio Accogli di Predeslava about di Demetrio family is given. We have to observe that others authors, writing on the same topic, used more or less the text of  di Predeslava ( Ciro Argondizza, Luciano Pellicioni di Poli,  Caramelli di Clavesana, etc.). The Fragment of Valente di Valbruna book is having the same text, less the end, therefore the end is published here.

If Dimitrij IX Vasiljevich was helped by Prof. Silvio Ciotti with the Rules of the Academy of St. Cyrill (see the post about Dimitrij’s  Academic Circles),  when trying to organize his heraldic patrimony, he was helped by the reputed Italian heraldist, Dr. Carmelo Arnone. We will present the Rules of the several Knightly Orders of di Demetrio family, as redacted by Dr. Carmelo Arnone. Note always his observation „when  redacting these Rules, I do not do any historical comments”.

a)Carmelo Arnone Ordine della Fede (S.Demetrio) 1943

b)Carmelo Arnone Ordine di S. Giorgio (Moscovita) 1943

c)Carmelo Arnone Ordine di S. Cirillo 1943

d)Carmelo Arnone Ordine dell’Imperial Soglio Russo 1943

e)Carmelo Arnone Ordine di S. Basilio (fragm) 1943    it is published only a fragment, the paragraphs of the Rule being common with those of St.Cyrill.

f)Carmelo Arnone Ordine del Santo Sepolcro 1943  this being the genuine Order belonging to di Demetrio family, due to the Polish connection of its forefathers. In Poland the Equestrian Order of H. Sepulchre was never united with the Order of St.John (Malta), as in other countries.

After the death of  HIH Dimitrij IX Vasiljevich of Russia (1965), his son, Dimitrij X Dimitrievich started the reform of some of these Orders, together with the Academy of St. Cyrill. We publish here some materials about.

Ordine dell’Imperial Soglio Russo 1967

Ordine di S. Giorgio (Moscovita) 1967

were the firsts to be reformed.  The same about Ordine San Cirillo 1967.  But because Dimitrij wanted to occupy himself with philosophy, logic, mathematics and literature, he was not attentive at some of his partners. If  Bishop Tito Mancini (+1969) was an honourable figure, Rev. Bruno Rigon had troubles with the Italian police and justice due to the titles traffic.

The Byzantine Order of the Holy Sepulchre was  reformed also (in 1965), Dimitrij delegating the Great Mastership to Rev. Joannes Maria van Assendelft (1923-2004), in those moments very active in real or bogus chivalric orders, and in the small Churches from Gallican or Old Catholic background. Assendelft was not leading this order properly, so Dimitrij had to dismiss him. All the documents can be found here:

Antonio Accogli di Predeslava Ordine del Santo Sepolcro (Russo) Atti 1970

S. Exc. Msgr. Jean Marie van Assendelft

Bishop van Assendelft joined in 1972 (according to some sources) the Coptic Orthodox Church (lead by Pope Shenouda III from Alexandria), being a very regular Coptic bishop, and, according to official Coptic magazines, having done a good work in God’s vineyard. A record of Bp. van Assendelft can be found here:

36-11-07-Voix de Saint Marc, p. 10-11

However, knights created by Msgr. Assendelft  were planning his dismissal, and created a new order, transforming the Milicia of the Holy Sepulchre  (a new name given to the Byzantine Order by Assendelft) in the Byzantine Order of the Holy Sepulchre. A  new Rule was published in Malta, in 1976

A strange OBSS from Malta 1976

The reader will agree that the presence of  the Templar Knights in Medieval Russia is a phantasy, unfortunately like other historical references there.

Mr. Alfred Joseph Baldacchino, a former Maltese diplomat and MP, tried to regularize this Maltese OBSS, and, discovering that HIH Dimitrij was still living, established contacts with him. Dimitrij  had some obvious pretensions, expecting  respect due to his state, and Mr. Baldacchino  was trying to increase  the number of knights, not always being attentive to the necessary requests.

Baldacchino was nominated as Delegate Master (1986) and in 1989 adopted, Dimitrij having no children.

Baldacchino Deputy Master 5 XII 1986

Baldacchino Adopted 12 X 1989

HIH the Great Duke Dimitrij  was not content with this new situation,  he  never received the due reports, nor was invited at the ceremonies, etc. So he created a new Rule, for a branch of OBSS submitted directly to him.

Dimitri OBSS 1989

More, he cancelled the documents addressed to mr. Baldacchino, dismissing him, the split in the OBSS being now a reality. Dimitrij’s historical account of  this evolution was published in Atti dell’Imperiale Accademia di Mosca I-IV, which can be read here:

Atti Imperiale Acc. di Mosca I II III IV

(please rotate this file, after opening it with Adobe Reader, clicking View on the file toolbar, and then clockwards). More press releases were printed too. Here are some annexed papers Annex Ac Mosca 1-4

Press communiques were published in Italian journals :Press extracts OBSS 1994.

In 2000 HIH Dimitrij X Dimitrievich of Russia, being ill and alone, tried to reconcile himself again with Mr. Baldacchino, and adopted Mr. Massimo Silvestri, baron of Olbia, from Venice, as Massimo di Russia. Mr. Baldacchino claimed that the act of 2000 was a transfer of  sovereign powers (which in fact is not possible), the act from 2000 being a private one (no notarised seal on it, nor the Seal of di Demetrio family). The act is presented here Dimitrij Baldacchino 6 VIII 2000

But Mr. Silvestri was adopted legally, and received a notarised testament according to the Italian Law,  so he in fact is the legal heir of the late Great Duke.

The Academic Circles of HIH Dimitrij X Dimitrievich of Russia

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , on Octombrie 4, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

As the reader can observe, some literary or scientific papers of the late Great Duke were published in two main revues „Atti dell”Imperiale Accademia di San Cirillo” and „Atti dell’Imperiale Accademia di Mosca„.

We must precise that in Italy and other European countries an „Academy” represents an intellectual circle, not always a high scientifical forum, or a State one ( as the Pontifical Academies, the French one, the Russian one, etc.). The documents we publish now are illustrating some moments of  these intellectual circles belonging to Demetrio di Demetrio family.

Statuto Ac. S Cirillo 1919

Prof.Silvio  Ciotti Ac S Cirillo 1957

At least five volumes of „Atti e Memorie” were patronised and published.

Accademia di San Cirillo hold its last public work  under the guidance of HIH Dimitrij in San Donato Val di Comino (Frosinone, Italy), between  26.II. 12.III.1995, patronising a picture exhibition. The San Cirillo Academy was aggregated to the Minerva Academy, founded in 1924, in Triest, and receiving a Royal Decree of recognition from King Victor Emmanuel III and Gen. Badoglio, in Bari, on 4.XI.1943. See  Ac. Minerva 1943 (and St.Cyrill)

The Moscow Academy was instituted on 4.X.1989, and at least six volumes of „Atti e Memorie” were printed.

A Humble Tribute to Our Pillars

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags on Octombrie 4, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

His Apostolic, Imperial and Royal Majesty Otto of Austria-Hungary was honouring us with correspondence, advises and heraldic canonical help.

His Majesty (b. 20.XI.1912 Reichenau, + 4.VII.2011Poecking/Starnberg, Emperor from 1.IV.1922 under the Regency of Her Ap. I. & R. Majesty Zitta till 20.XI.1930, then with full heraldic powers) wrote more then 35 books. Fundamental is „Geschichte und Zukunft einer Uebernationalen Ordnung” (Vienna Munich,1986, Amaltea) translated in other languages as „The Imperial Europe”. Here He explains clearly the role of the Holy Roman Empire, and analyses the mistakes of the modernist political thoughts. His proposed solutions unfortunately were neglected, so we have to support the actual disastrous situation from the present times. We expose here two portraits of His Majesty, which He send us, the last one with the date of  3.X.2004, when His Father, Emperor Charles of Austria-Hungary was proclaimed Blessed by Pope John Paul the II-nd. An Obituary of H.Ap., I. & R. Majesty is given here, sadly respecting only the small titles  HM Otto Obituary

Not to forget: among other titles of the Emperor of Austria was also the King of Jerusalem!

His Majesty King Michael I of Romania (b. 25.X.1921) ruled effectively the country between 1927-1930 and since 1940.In Exile between 1948-1997,  He suffered the tribulations of the sad destiny of the Romanian people. Together with Her Majesty Queen Anne, He wrote a literary piece, where deep traditional thoughts are expressed (published in Queen’s Anne Memories „Un razboi, un exil, o viata”, Bucuresti, 2000, Humanitas). Her Majesty Queen Anne is Ist degree cousin with H.M. Otto. H.Majesty the King gave us authorisation to act in Romania, later ratified by H.M. Otto.

H.I.H. Dimitrij Maria X Dimitrievich of Russia as Writer

We would like to present some works or fragments  from the literary, philosophical or mathematical creation of the late Great Duke Dimitrij. Most of them are written in Italian, some of them in French. In fact he spoke a select French, being able to communicate in Spanish or Latin and understanding English or other Neo-Latin languages ( He was able to understand well a written text in Romanian).

HIH Dimitrij at a conferrence  HIH Dimitrij in an instant at Rome 1995

HIH Dimitrij at a conference             An instant photo, Rome 1995

A significant list of his published works can be found here, together with those cured by him in the Academy of St. Cyrill, and, from 1990, the Academy of Moscow ( Accademia Imperiale di San Cirillo , Accademia Imperiale di Mosca) Bibliografia Dimitri, Ac S Cirillo.

Some of his heraldic essays are

Dimitrij about nobility, 1948

Dimitri Diritti dello sovrano

Dimitrij Debellatio si…   (the last article published in  Symposiacus, Bari, XXXI, 2001, nr.1, p. 13-14)

Some social essays can be found here:

1. A study about friendship (1962) with a very good traditional prospective about the involution of the present society:

Dimitri Sull’ Amicizia 1

Dimitri Amicizia 2

Dimitri Amicizia 3

2. Another social essay :Dimitrij Lettera all’ABC

3. Connections about logic and right of property are developed  in:

Ac S Cirillo 5 The Logic of possession Rights 1

Ac S Cirillo 5 The Logic of possession Rights 2

Ac S Cirillo 5 The Logic of possession Rights 3

Dimitrij Principio di Mill e.. le.dottrine ecnomiche

is an important study, followed by his academic bio-bibliography till 1975

4. As proved here, mathematics were not neglected:

Dimitrij About Vinogradov Theorema

Dimitrij Maths Caserta

Dimitrij Goldbach Theoreme 1994    (Mathematical studies were published in Symposiacus from Bari, or in L’Inventiva from Caserta, scientifical magazines)

About Sansonian Numbers and Numbers’Mathematics some articles are found in the Acts of  Moscow Academy

Atti Imperiale Acc. di Mosca I II III IV

(please rotate this file, when opening with Adobe Reader, on the toolbar click view, and the clockwards)

5. Some poems were useful to be presented, in Italian and French:

Dimitrij Alcune poesie ,

and maybe the last ones written by him:

Dimitri Poesia

Dimitrij Poesie 2

Some short sketches and tales were published in cycles „Racconti alla slava” and „Favole della Terra Russa” in several editions. The last one is in the  Acts of the Academy of Moscow VI:

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI a

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI b

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI c

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI d

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI e

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI f

Atti Acc. di Mosca VI g

He was fascinated by Russia, loved the Russian culture and spirituality, but unfortunately was unable to visit it. How the Great Duke composed his works was explained in his own foreword of Mirra a piece of theatre in classic style:

Dimitrij Preface to Mirra 1960

6. Dimitrij di Russia was invited and accepted in some philosophical symposium, as it was that from Genoa in 1976 ( where he was able to meet a Cardinal Karol Wojtyla)

Dimitri Simposion 1976 Genova

and to the very famous, exclusive Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas and of Catholic Faith where he presented some relations eventually published in the Acts of those Congress:

Dimitri and Thomism

Two of his texts presented there can be read here:

Dimitrij in Teoria e Prassi 1976

Dimitrij about Thomism 1982

There are numbers of press articles and interventions of the late Great Duke, but what presented here would be enough to appreciate his huge general culture.

In Memoriam S.A.I. Dimitrij X Dimitrievich di Russia

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags , on Octombrie 2, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

This year we commemorate 90 years from the birth of  H.I.H. Great Duke Demetrio Maria di Demetrio, alias Dimitrij X Dimitrievich of Russia. He was a hard working writer, philosopher, epistemologist and heraldist. Despite his mistakes in some heraldic and chivalric matters, he was a person who multiplied his own talents, being also helpful to everybody who consulted him in academic, law, heraldry or chivalric fields.

More then three chivalric orders are claiming his heritage (from Malta, from the U.S., from Italy). However none of them did something significant to preserve his cultural heritage, despite claiming a heir status from Him.

It is our task to repair this missing.

We are not polemising with somebody, nor we want to claim our unique right to continue his spiritual and intellectual work. Publishing some old, historical materials from his archive, from the Roman Libraries (Pontifical or not) we consider that this would be the best thing to do to maintain among us His memory, and, why not, to help even the „dissident” brothers to know better their (or a significant part of their) own history.

We really think that in our days, infested by surrogates and consumerism, trying to preserve  even only the external aspects of knighthood is an important duty. And if they are doing charity, this is more to be praised.

Our Priory is not selling titles, nor has any financial activity. Our knights are providing on their own to increase the spiritual patrimony of our priory, orientated more in academic fields. But admission in our Priory is only  by invitation, not by requests.

We consider however that:

1) H. Ap. I.& R. Majesty Charles VIII of Austria/Hungary as the Chief of the Nobility in Europe (We use  the number following The S. R. Emperors;  otherwise He would be Charles IInd of Austria and Vth of Hungary).

2)The legitimate possessor of the Russian Imperial Throne is H. I. Majesty Maria Vladimirovna Romanova, as Regent  Empress.

3)We pretend to our members to have a monarchical faith, and witnessing public or private only the Catholic (of all rites) or Orthodox Faith. No ecumenical mania among our confreres.

4)Our members have to avoid any political affiliation, and they have to avoid all membership in masonic or para-masonic societies.

5)As legitimate heir of  the House of the late Great Duke Dimitrij we consider H.I.H. Massimo Silvestri of Russia, Duke of Narev, baron of Olbia, living now in Venice. He, however wrote us that he is not giving priority to the Byzantine Order of the Holy Sepulchre (O.B.S.S.), preferring to orientate his attention to other chivalric orders and other traditional fields. Dimitrij’s Testament can be read here: Dimitrij Testamento vs Massimo Silvestri

Fot those who are interested in a better historical material of the OBSS, we offer our essay Old Things from the Past for the Future , written in Rome between 1994-1995. We would ask pardon for our poor English, our text being massacred when first published in 2001, in a local printing-house. We tried however to correct it. Several historical materials will follow.

Ap. I. şi R. Carol al VII-lea de Austria-Ungaria (Habsburg), fiul M.S. Ap. I. şi R. Otto al Austro-Ungariei (1912-2011)

2) Prioratul recunoaşte ca legitim ocupant al Tronului Imperial Rus pe M.S. I. Maria Vladimirovna Romanov, Împărăteasă regentă.

Încercăm să oferim şi un studiu istoric Old Things from the Past for the Future, redactat de Mircea Remus cav.Birtz,OBSS la Roma, între 1994-1995 şi publicat în 2001. Autorul se scuză pentru engleza lui dar textul a avut şi multe greşeli de tehnoredactare, imputabile editurii locale  de atunci. Alte documente vor urma.

Jesus Christus regnare volumus!

Posted in O.B.S.S. with tags on Octombrie 2, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

The motto of our priory is Jesus Christus regnare volumus!

Each Knight of  the Holy Sepulchre, despite all branches of  the Orders carrying that name, must be a guardian of the Empty Tomb, of the Crucified and Resurrected Jesus Christ.

Not only Jesus ( considered only as a master, teacher, philosopher, rabbi among many others), not only Christ ( considered as a function usurped by many, or understood in most impersonal ways) but Jesus Christ, True Man (b. 8 Tevet 7 b.C.E. – d. 14 Nisan 30 EV, resurrected on 16 Nisan 30 EV, or 25.XII. 7 b.CE – 7.IV. 30 CE, resurrected 9.IV. CE), Prince of Judea, belonging to mishpahat David, Messiach of Israel, and True God, son of the Father, born in Eternity. The hypostatic union, only once possible, was completed in Jesus Christ, Lord, Saviour, true  Son of Man and  true Son of God, as the Fathers of the IVth Ecumenical Council from Chalcedon stated solemnly in 451. ( Accurate historical data about Him can be found in the works of Alfred Edersheim, Don Giuseppe Ricciotti, Don Antonio Persili, Prof. David Flusser and Prof. Shemariahu Talmon.)

Today to signs are witnessing about Him:

1) the Holy Shroud now kept in Turin

2) and the Miracle of the Holy Light, occurring in Jerusalem , at each Easter Holiday celebrated after the Byzantine calendar, in the Holy Sepulchre Basilica.

It is normal to be so: being truly incarnated, Jesus Christ leaved us two signs: the Holy Shroud, for His human nature, and the Holy Light, to prove again His divinity. Even the Resurrection, a clear historical moment, was connected with the Light; the Light’s  „fingerprint” was detected on the Shroud recently.  (You can read the scientific paper of the Italian team from ENEA Frascatti here:  ENEA Frascatti 2005-2010)

He, Jesus Christ, is the Unique Way, Truth and Life.

The Holy Light, manifested from the Thaboric one ( theologised by St. Gregory Palamas and other Fathers) was manifested itself in Fatima,  during 13.V. – 13.X. 1917, when the small visionars , according to all sources, were in  „the Light, which is God”. Blessed Jacintha and Francisco Marto were at that time quite iletterate, they knew nothing about St. Gregory Palamas, hesychasm, or Russia.

Few (and  sadly, none from the Fatimists) know that Most B.V. Mary gave in the same year a sign in Russia: the weeping and miraculous colour changing of the Kostroma village Marian Icon „Derzhavnaya” ( the Ruling Mother of God). This happened on 13 – 15.II. 1917, when Tzar Nicholas II had to abdicate, treacherously. After, Bolshevism started its spreading in the world.  The story of this miracle, told by M. rev. Fr. Archimandrite Nektarios Serfes can be read here:P. Nektarios Serfes Miracle of the Mother of God 1917).

Here is the „Derzhavnaya”Icon from Kolomna, and down, a photo of the crowd in Fatima, 13.X.  1917 (Miracle of the Sun)

God accepted the sacrifice of the St. Martyrs Tzar Nicholas II and his family, many miracles occurring among their intercessions, one of it being the myrrh weeping icon (Moscow 1999) of the Royal Martyr Family:

.

In 1918, Blessed Emperor and King Charles (I of Austria, IV King of Hungary), the VII th (of the Holy Roman Empire),  seeing the treason near him,the shameless pretensions of the „victorious states” and desiring to avoid civil war, renounced to exercise his powers, but never abdicated. Hitler’s (and other parvenus) way to power was free.

The Social Royalty of Our Saviour, so clearly described by Pope Pius XI, was thrown away by modern apostates and rebels. This implied a huge price to be paid: according Stephane Courtois et alii  („Le Livre noir du communisme”) Bolshevism between 1917-1990 killed more then 300 million people. The II World War was leaving other tenth of million people death, and the tremendous peace which followed, was even worse. This was the catastrophic result of the Utopia!

During these times, simple, but solid knowledge of the Christian Doctrine is therefore necessary.

Vatican II, according to the Popes who dealed with, is a pastoral council, its dogmatic value being none. A dogmatic Council, which every Catholic must respect is Vatican I (1870). All the Papal Encyclicals from Pope Pius VI (+1799) til Pope Pius XII (+1958) contain a treasure of  teachings, most necessary for us  today.

But the same has the Orthodox Church. here we offer two variants of the unique dogmatic, canonical and liturgical document of the Orthodox Church, the Synodikon of the Orthodoxy. It has to be read in the Church, after the Holy Liturgy, in the Ist Sunday of the Great Lent (the Sunday of the Orthodoxy),  but unfortunately, it is neglected now except Russian and some Greek churches.

The first variant is in French, an excellent translation  cured by „St. Gregory Palamas Brotherhood” from Paris, issued in the magazine „La Lumiere du Thabor”, Paris, nr. 41-42, L’Age d’Homme:

Synodikon LdT 41-42 a

Synodikon LdT 41-42 b

The second one is in Romanian, a very good translation of Prof.  Fr. Ioan Ica jr., published in „Mitropolia Ardealului”, Sibiu, 1985, nr.7-8, given here:  Synodikon MA 7-8 1985

Those who will read this Document will observe that several heresies were condemned by the Byzantine Church more centuries before the Western one did the same. For Romanian readers we offer also the Encyclical Letter of the Patriarch of Constantinople Parthenios, from 1641, and the acts of the Bethleem Synod, celebrated by Patriarch Dositheos Nottaras in 1672, Partenie 1641 Dositei Betleem a   and    Dositei Betleem b.

It is astonishing to discover the huge number of those self claimed or self-styled Orthodox, who never read, or even knew these texts. And sure, they will be for great help to the Westerners Catholics, who really do not know what Orthodox have to believe.

The encyclicals mentioned above and the Synodikon are the milestones for our spiritual way.

The genuine documents of the Christian Tradition (both Eastern or Western) demonstrate the perfect congruence between the two main branches of the Church. The Message of the Bl. V. Mary in 1917 was clear. Both traditions have to be kept, known, together. St. Constantine the Great, St. Justinian the Great and St. Charlemagne , or St. Heinrich II, St. Steven I king of Hungary with St. Steven The Great, prince of Moldavia, St. Thomas Aquinas with St. Gregory Palamas, The Philokalia with the Summa Theologiae, St. Nikodemus Aghiorita with St. John of the Cross, St. Maximilian Kolbe together with the martyrs from the Gulag, and so on.. But prayer, study and humbleness are required. Mystical knowledge is also real and practical.

For those who are interested in Tradition we offer more:

David Hughues The Davidic Dynasty (2001-2005)

David Hughues Davidic Dynasty Bibliography

David Hughues The Habsburgs

Some  important data can be found there. But there’s another observation to be done: The official title of the Emperor of Austria is:

Emperor of Austria,
Apostolic King of Hungary,
King of Bohemia, of Dalmatia, of Croatia, of Slavonia, of Galicia, of Lodomeria, and of Illyria,
King of Jerusalem, and so forth,
Archduke of Austria,
Grand Duke of Tuscany and of Cracow,
Duke of Lorraine, of Salzburg, of Styria, of Carinthia, of Carniola and of the Bukovina,
Grand Prince of Transylvania,
Margrave in Moravia,
Duke of Upper and Lower Silesia, of Modena, Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla, of Auschwitz and Zator, of Teschen, Friuli, Ragusa and Zara,
Princely Count of Habsburg and Tyrol, of Kyburg, Gorizia and Gradisca,
Prince of Trient and Brixen,
Margrave of Upper and Lower Lusatia and in Istria,
Count of Hohenems, Feldkirch, Bregenz, Sonnenberg, and so forth,
Lord of Trieste, of Cattaro and of the Wendish Mark,
Grand Voivode of the Voivodship of Serbia, and so forth,
Sovereign of the Order of the Golden Fleece.   (from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_of_Austria#Titles_of_the_Emperor)

Among the other titles the Emperors from the Holy Roman Empire, and later, from Austria-Hungary had (King of Hungary, of Bohemia, of Illiria, of Lodomeria) was the title King of Jerusalem. Each solemn and official document of the emperors mentioned it. it is enough to consult some official records of Austria-Hungary before 1919. The other dynasty which has this privilege is the Italian one, the Savoy (Savoia). Sure, politically  this fact  has no more significance, but in heraldry and Tradition this detail  is essential.

We can be proud that our Priory was encouraged by H.Ap. I. & R. Majesty Otto, King of Jerusalem! The Pope and the Emperor were the pillars of the Christian Society, the Civitas Dei built once a time, described by St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Nicholas the Mystic, Patriarch of Constantinople,  St. Bernard of Clairvaux,or Dante Alighieri ( „De Monarchia”). Both, Pope and Emperor,  were legitimate Vicars of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Therefore:

Jesus Christus regnare volumus!

How Are They, Our „Separate Brethern”?

Posted in O.B.S.S. on Octombrie 16, 2012 by remusmirceabirtz

Between the lucrative branches of the O.B.S.S. fraternal relations not always are evident. Each of them has its own version of the story. A general image can be acquired only when all are presented together.

H. Em. H. Alfred Josef Baldacchino is ruling the Maltese branch of the OBSS from a long time. His version about the split of his branch can be read here: Baldacchino about Calleja     and    Baldacchino about „Calleja Knights”.

Count Carmelo Sandro Calleja has his own version about the same (sad) event:Calleja about Baldacchino and  Signature_analysis.   However,   a Maltese Court Sentence,    was given, but sadly, the former two allies are not yet reconciled.

Mr. Calleja tried to find another ally on his side. He mixed himself with „Sir Robert Bouchlas, alias Metropolitan Haralambos of the Ukrainian Church in Exile”

„Sir Robert Bouchlas” was not loosing time, and created his own Great Priory in the U.S. His story can be found here: Haralambos Robert Bouchlas story  , or    Haralambos and Calleja,

and even a Holy See St.Gregory the Great Diploma (Metropolitan-Brevet).  Sure, if You want to join in such a   society, You have to pay  ( Benefits to Knighthood).

Look at this title: H.I.R.H.. Prof. Dr. Antonio Tiberio Dobrynia Dimitrijevich Aragona di Roma e Russia. It’s impressive, isn’t it?  The „Prince Tiberio Dobrynia” has his own story to be told, unfortunately ignoring the inverted commas, where they had to be put. His story can be read here: Antonio Tiberio story.

We might expect other self-styled princes, great dukes, unknown monarchs to occur; we promise to keep You informed about them.
